CF Games Recap
This years CrossFit Games was perhaps the most functional test of General Physical Preparedness yet.
Individual Athletes (their sport is Fitness!) were exposed to fantastic combinations of the 10 General Physical Components of Fitness:
Workout 1, Snatches and Muscle-Ups, stressed Flexibility, Speed, Power, and Coordination.
Workout 2, Middle Distance Running mixed with High-Rep Kettlebell Swings and Pull-Ups, followed by 1RM “Shoulder to Overhead,” tested athletes’ Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength and Speed.
Workout 3, Deadlifts, Sprints, Pistols and Double-Unders revealed any deficiencies in CrossFitters’ Strength, Speed, Agility, Coordination and Balance.
Workout 4, Wall Climb, Sandbag Carry and Wheel Barrow Push forced competitors into a highly functional environment. Stamina, Speed, Accuracy, Agility and Balance all played crucial roles in completing a task that nobody saw coming.
Workout 6, Ring Handstand Push-Ups and Cleans, focused on Stength, Power, Coordination and Balance.
The final event, Workout 7 a, b, and c included different variations of wall climbs,push-ups, overhead squats, leg lifts, ground-to-overhead, burpees, and 25ft rope climbs. 9 out of the 10 Components of Fitness were represented in droves, with only (Absolute) Strength being under-represented.
Any attempt to down-play the efficacy of the Games in its mission to find the best prepared athlete on Earth is missing the forest for the trees. Wall-Ball and Rowing being absent in the programming did not dilute the test; throwing and monostructural activity were both present in even more functional and common forms.
There was a clear focus on muscular stamina and grip strength throughout the weekend, and our Fire, LEO and military CrossFitters recognized and appreciated it immediately.
If you didn’t catch any of the events, they are archived in hour-by-hour HD format available at live.crossfit.com.
Great athletes, great competition, great venue, great atmosphere, great community.

Wall ball was represented!! But it was during the affiliate competition. This being my first time watching the Games, I was greatly impressed with how well-rounded the athletes were! There was not one exercise that I couldn’t relate to real-life application, whether it be day-to-day use or extreme emergency-type stuff. I will be sticking with CrossFit for a long time!!!
